 2023 Preview 


       Pike Road completed the 2022 season with a 7-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region two, the Patriots earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Pike Road reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Homewood by a score of 24-21.

       The defense allowed a team record 255 points last season. The Patriots had some tough luck last season as four of their five losses were by less than eight points. The Patriots hope to get back closer to the 14-0 record in 2021.

       Over the past two seasons the Patriots have Finished 21-5 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition.

       Pike Road is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only five seasons. They have managed a record of 49-12 over the past five years. Their last losing season was 1932.




       The Patriots will be under the direction of new head football coach Granger Shook as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Shook arrives from Trinity where his teams finished 28-9 in just three seasons. Over the course of his career, Coach Shook's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . The Patriots have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 61-46 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 6A and 57th in the AHSAA.

       While most teams rebuild during the off season, Pike Road has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Patriots should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 1933 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2023.

      QB Kaleb Foster will be returning after completing 58 of 99 passes for 927 yards last season along with 9 touchdowns. He also ran for another 344 yards and eight TDs.

      Makik Blocton will be back to anchor the defense along the defensive line.

       The Patriots open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Marist GA on Friday, August 25.

       Pike Road and Marist GA have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 0-2-0 record against Marist GA. They last met in 2022 with Marist GA winning by a score of 33-22.

      

       The Patriots return 6A All-State Senior offensive lineman Vysen Lang. He was named to the first team last season. The Patriots also return Senior defensive lineman Malik Blocton. He was named to the second team.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Thomasville scored 54 points against Gulf Shores in the first quarter of a game in 2003. They managed to hang on for an 81-14 win.
